Short answer

Quick answer: when are my major turning points?

The biggest shifts in a chart come when a mahadasha changes, since that resets the theme of a whole decade. Antardasha changes inside a demanding period matter too, as do the slow transits: Saturn changing sign, the start or end of Sade Sati, and the Rahu–Ketu axis moving. Your birth details fix all of these dates precisely.

What you can learn

Life areas a turning point can touch

01

Career and direction

A change of field, city or the kind of work you do.

02

Marriage and family

Commitments made, or the shape of a household changing.

03

Money and risk

Periods where earning, spending and obligations reset.

04

Home and location

Moves, property and time spent away from where you started.

05

Outlook and priorities

Shifts in what you want, which often precede the visible changes.

Chart factors

What creates a turning point

A mahadasha change

This is the largest one. When a mahadasha ends, the theme of your life for the past six to twenty years is replaced by another. People often describe the year or two around such a change as the point where everything began moving in a different direction. The dates are exact, and most people can identify their previous one looking back.

An antardasha change inside a long period

Within a long mahadasha, a change of antardasha can feel like a turning point in itself, especially when the new sub-lord rules very different houses. A stretch that was all about work can turn towards family within a month of the change, without anything external explaining it.

Saturn changing sign

Saturn moves roughly every two and a half years, and the house it enters becomes the area asking for effort and patience. Those entries and exits are noticeable markers, particularly when Saturn crosses into your 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house.

Sade Sati beginning or ending

Sade Sati is Saturn's passage through the sign before your Moon, your Moon sign and the sign after, lasting about seven and a half years. Both its start and its end tend to be remembered as turning points. The end in particular often coincides with a lighter, more open phase.

The Rahu–Ketu axis moving

The nodes change signs roughly every eighteen months, shifting which pair of houses carries restlessness and which carries release. When they land on your 1st and 7th houses, or your 4th and 10th, the resulting period often brings unexpected changes in identity, relationships or location.

How turning points are read

The reading lists the dates when your periods change over the coming years, marks which are major and which are minor, and says which areas of life each new lord activates. Alongside them it notes the slow transits reaching sensitive houses. What you get is a timeline of when the ground shifts, not a list of events. Whether a turning point becomes a job change, a move or a marriage depends on which houses are involved and what you do with it.

Common worries

Common worries about big changes

I'm afraid of what a turning point will bring

A turning point is a change of direction, not a catastrophe. Most are recognisable only afterwards, and they frequently involve ordinary things: a new role, a move, a relationship beginning. The reading describes which area of life is being reset and what the new period favours, not misfortune.

Nothing has changed for years

Long flat stretches usually mean you're mid-way through a long mahadasha with sub-periods that don't touch the areas you care about. The reading shows how far the next real change is. Sometimes it's closer than it feels, and sometimes knowing it's three years away is itself useful information.

A change is being forced on me

When external events arrive during a period change, it can feel like the decision was taken away. The chart can show which houses are involved and what the new period supports, which often makes it easier to choose a direction within the change rather than resisting it.

Scope of the reading

What This Reading Can and Can't Tell You

Can

  • The dates when your periods change
  • Which are major shifts and which are minor
  • Which areas of life each new period activates
  • When slow transits reach sensitive houses

Can't

  • What specific event will occur
  • Whether a change is welcome or unwelcome
  • Anything about health, accidents or lifespan
  • The decisions you'll make within a period

Worked example

Example: a decade with two shifts (fictional)

Not a real person's chart

A fictional woman with Sagittarius rising is 31 and finishing a Moon mahadasha that began at 21. The Moon rules her 8th house, and the decade has involved considerable upheaval and rebuilding. Her Mars mahadasha begins next year and runs seven years. Mars rules her 5th and 12th houses and sits in her 10th, so the new decade points towards creative or technical work, with a strong element of travel or time spent away from home. Saturn also enters her 4th house eighteen months later, which usually coincides with decisions about home and family. The reading marks the mahadasha change as her major turning point and the Saturn entry as a second, smaller one.

Questions people ask

Frequently Asked Questions

When will my life change according to my kundli (zindagi kab badlegi)?+

The clearest markers are mahadasha changes, which reset the theme of a whole decade, along with antardasha changes inside long periods. Slow transits matter too, particularly Saturn changing sign and Sade Sati starting or ending. All of these have exact dates calculated from your birth details.

What is the biggest turning point in a horoscope?+

A mahadasha change is usually the largest, because it replaces the theme that has shaped six to twenty years of your life. How dramatic it feels depends on how different the two planets are in your chart: a shift from a 10th-house lord's period to a 12th-house lord's period is felt far more than a shift between related planets.

How often do major turning points happen?+

Mahadasha changes come every six to twenty years, so most people experience four or five in adult life. Smaller shifts arrive more often through antardasha changes and slow transits. Long stretches without any significant change are normal and usually mean you're inside a long period.

Does Sade Sati count as a turning point?+

Its beginning and end both do for many people. Sade Sati usually brings a phase of responsibility and slower progress, and the shift in tone at each end is noticeable. Whether it registers as a major turning point depends on Saturn's condition in your chart and on which dasha runs alongside it.

Can a turning point be predicted exactly?+

The dates of period changes and transits are exact calculations. What happens around them isn't. A chart can tell you that a significant shift falls in a particular few months and which area of life it touches, but not what the event will be.

Are turning points always difficult?+

No. Many are straightforwardly positive: a marriage, a better role, a move that works out. Change is simply unfamiliar, which is why even good shifts can feel unsettling while they're happening. The reading describes what the new period favours so you can see what kind of change it is.

Astrology describes tendencies and favourable periods in your chart, it cannot guarantee outcomes. Your choices, effort and circumstances shape what actually happens.
