Short answer
Quick answer: what does a life prediction by date of birth show?
A life prediction by date of birth reads your Vimshottari dasha sequence, the chain of planetary periods that runs from birth to the end of life. Each period takes its character from the planet's strength and the houses it rules in your chart. Jupiter and Saturn transits mark the events within them. Together they show which phases favour career, money, relationships or family.

Chart factors
How your chart describes the future
Your mahadasha
The mahadasha is the long planetary period you're living in, lasting between six and twenty years depending on the planet. It sets the theme of that whole stretch: what tends to come easily, where the pressure sits, and which parts of life get your attention. Most people can recognise their last mahadasha change in hindsight.
Antardasha, pratyantar and sookshma
Inside each mahadasha sit smaller periods. The antardasha gives the year, the pratyantar narrows it to months, and the sookshma to weeks. This is how a chart moves from "this decade favours career" to "these few months are the ones to act in". The finer levels are where specific events usually land.
What the dasha lord rules in your chart
A planet's period brings the affairs of the houses it rules. If Venus rules your 7th and 12th houses, its period tends to raise relationships and expenses together. The same planet behaves differently in two charts, which is why generic "Venus period" descriptions rarely match what people actually experience.
Functional benefics and malefics
A planet is helpful or difficult depending on your Lagna, not on its general reputation. Saturn is a benefic for Taurus and Libra rising and a difficult planet for others. Reading the dasha lord's role for your specific Lagna is what separates a real reading from a sun-sign forecast.
Planet strength
The same period runs very differently depending on the planet's condition. An exalted dasha lord in a good house delivers its promise generously. A debilitated or combust one delivers the same themes with more friction. Strength is what decides whether a period feels like a tailwind or a climb.
Jupiter and Saturn transits
Dashas set the theme and transits supply the timing. Jupiter takes about a year in a sign and Saturn about two and a half, so they mark the bigger events within a period. Sade Sati, Saturn's roughly seven-and-a-half-year passage around your Moon sign, is the transit people notice most.
Life areas your chart covers
A life reading works area by area. Career and status come from the 10th house, income from the 2nd and gains from the 11th. Relationships and marriage sit in the 7th, home and inner peace in the 4th, children in the 5th, and travel or foreign settlement in the 9th and 12th. Whichever houses your current dasha lord rules or occupies are the areas that become active. That's why one person's period is all about work while another's is about family, even under the same planet.
Common worries
Common worries about the future
Is a bad period coming?
Charts don't divide neatly into good and bad periods. Most contain a mix: a stretch that pressures your career may strengthen your family life, and a difficult transit often coincides with real growth. A reading is more useful for knowing what a period asks of you than for labelling it.
I don't want to know something frightening
A reading here won't tell you about death, illness or disaster, and no responsible reading should. What you'll get is which areas of life are active, which periods ask for patience, and where the support lies. If a stretch looks demanding, the reading says what it demands rather than dramatising it.
Predictions I've heard before didn't come true
Two common reasons: an inaccurate birth time, which shifts your Lagna and everything built on it, and readings that describe periods in general terms rather than through your specific chart. Timing based on your own dasha lords and their house rulerships is considerably more grounded than a sign-based forecast.
Scope of the reading
What This Reading Can and Can't Tell You
Can
- Which period you're in and what it favours
- Which areas of life the coming periods activate
- When the bigger transits arrive
- Whether a stretch asks for patience or action
Can't
- Specific events on specific dates
- Anything about lifespan, death or illness
- Decisions you haven't made yet
- Circumstances outside your own chart
Worked example
Example: reading a period sequence (fictional)
Not a real person's chart
Take a fictional man with Leo rising, aged 33. He's in a Rahu mahadasha that began at 28 and runs to 46. Rahu sits in his 10th house, so career has dominated the past five years, with unconventional moves and rapid changes. Within it, he's running a Jupiter antardasha. Jupiter rules his 5th and 8th houses, so this sub-period has brought creative work alongside some upheaval. Next comes Saturn's antardasha, and Saturn rules his 6th and 7th houses, which turns attention towards work routines and partnerships. Sade Sati begins during it. The reading describes a demanding but productive stretch, with the pressure easing as the following antardasha arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can my kundli tell me about my future (bhavishyavani)?+
It can tell you which planetary period you're in, what that period tends to activate in your life, and when the next ones begin. Add the bigger transits of Jupiter and Saturn and you get a map of which years favour career, money, relationships or family. It describes tendencies and timing, not fixed events.
What is Vimshottari dasha?+
It's the main timing system in Vedic astrology. Your life is divided into planetary periods totalling 120 years, starting from the nakshatra the Moon occupied at your birth. Each period carries the character of its planet and the houses that planet rules in your chart, which is why two people experience the same dasha very differently.
How far ahead can astrology predict?+
Dasha periods can be calculated for a whole lifetime, so the structure is visible far ahead. Practically, the further out you look, the more general the reading becomes. One to five years is where timing and detail are most useful; beyond that, treat it as the shape of the road rather than the turns.
Are some periods genuinely bad?+
Some are demanding. Periods of a functional malefic for your Lagna, or of a weak planet ruling difficult houses, tend to ask more of you. That's different from bad. Many people do their most important work during hard periods, and most difficult stretches coincide with growth in some other part of life.
Why do two people born on the same day get different predictions?+
Because of birth time and place. The Lagna changes roughly every two hours, which changes every house in the chart and therefore what each planet rules. The Moon's exact position also sets where your dasha sequence starts. Same date, different time, genuinely different life map.
Does Sade Sati mean seven and a half bad years?+
No. Sade Sati is Saturn's transit through the signs around your Moon sign, and it typically brings responsibility, hard work and a slower pace. Plenty of people marry, get promoted or build something lasting during it. Its intensity depends on Saturn's condition in your birth chart and on the dasha running alongside it.
Can astrology predict specific events on specific dates?+
It can narrow timing to a few weeks using the finer dasha levels alongside transits, but naming a date for a specific event isn't something a chart supports reliably. Treat the finer levels as a window to act in, not a calendar entry.
What if I don't know my exact birth time for a life reading?+
Dasha calculations depend on the Moon's position, which moves slowly enough that an approximate time still gives broadly usable period timing. Your Lagna and houses are more sensitive, changing roughly every two hours, so house-based detail becomes less reliable. A birth certificate or hospital record is worth finding.
Astrology describes tendencies and favourable periods in your chart, it cannot guarantee outcomes. Your choices, effort and circumstances shape what actually happens.
