Short answer
Quick answer: how is marriage compatibility checked in astrology?
Marriage compatibility has two sides. Your own kundli shows what you need in a partnership, through your 7th house, 7th lord, Venus and Navamsa. Comparing two charts, usually through guna milan, shows how well two people fit. The AI astrologer reads your side from your date, time and place of birth, and the matchmaking tool compares both.
One chart vs two charts
Your chart alone shows the kind of partner and partnership that suits you: the temperament you're drawn to, what you need to feel secure and where you tend to clash. It can't see the other person's chart, so it can't score a specific match. For that, you need both people's birth details. Most families use both: a personal reading to understand needs and timing, and a two-chart match before deciding.
Chart factors
What your own chart says about compatibility
Your 7th house sign
The sign on your 7th house describes the temperament that complements you. A fire sign here suits an energetic, direct partner. An earth sign suits someone steady and practical. Air suits a talker and a friend, and water suits someone emotionally present. A partner far from this description can still work, but it usually takes more adjustment.
Your 7th lord
The planet ruling your 7th house shows what the partnership needs to thrive. Jupiter as 7th lord values shared principles, Mercury values communication, and Saturn values reliability and commitment. When a real partner meets the needs of your 7th lord, the relationship tends to feel natural.
Venus
Venus shows how you express and receive affection. Two people who show love very differently can clash even when they care deeply. Knowing your Venus helps you describe what you need in a way a partner can act on.
The Navamsa (D9)
The Navamsa describes the deeper nature of partnership in your chart. It often explains why some relationships feel right on paper but not in practice. It is also one of the things to compare between two charts beyond the guna score.

Common worries
Common compatibility worries
A low guna milan score
Guna milan scores out of 36, and 18 or more is traditionally considered acceptable. A lower score isn't an automatic no; a fuller reading also looks at the 7th house, Navamsa and dasha periods of both people. A high score also doesn't guarantee a good marriage by itself.
One of us is Manglik
Manglik matching is a common concern in two-chart matching. Families often prefer both partners to be Manglik or neither to be. It's one consideration among several, and the rest of both charts matters as much. The matchmaking tool shows Manglik status for both people.
Scope of the reading
What This Reading Can and Can't Tell You
Can
- What kind of partner and partnership suits you
- Where you're likely to clash or need adjustment
- What to look for when comparing two charts
- When a two-chart match is the right next step
Can't
- Score a specific match from one chart
- Replace a full two-chart comparison
- Guarantee a happy marriage from a high score
- Decide whether you should marry someone
Worked example
Example: reading one side, then matching (fictional)
Not a real person's chart
A fictional man with Libra rising has Aries on his 7th house and Mars, the 7th lord, in his 10th house. His chart describes a need for an independent, energetic and ambitious partner. The woman his family suggests is gentle and home-focused. Their guna milan score is a respectable 24 out of 36. His own chart suggests the real question isn't the score, but whether both of them are comfortable with his need for an equally driven partner. That's a conversation the score alone wouldn't prompt.

Questions people ask
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check marriage compatibility with kundli milan?+
Kundli milan compares two people's charts using guna milan, a points system based on the Moon's nakshatra in each chart, scored out of 36. It's usually checked alongside Manglik status. You need both people's date, time and place of birth. The free matchmaking tool calculates the score and Manglik status for both.
What is a good guna milan score?+
Traditionally, 18 or more out of 36 is considered acceptable, 24 to 32 good, and above 32 excellent. The score comes from eight categories: varna, vashya, tara, yoni, graha maitri, gana, bhakoot and nadi. Traditionally, a low score in nadi or bhakoot is treated as more important than the total.
Can I check compatibility with just my own birth details?+
Partly. Your own chart shows what you need in a partner and the kind of partnership that suits you, which helps you judge compatibility yourself. To check fit with a specific person, you need their birth details as well, so both charts can be compared.
Is a high guna milan score enough for marriage?+
Not on its own. Guna milan is based mainly on the Moon's nakshatra, so it doesn't look at the 7th house, Venus or the Navamsa. Two charts with a high score can still differ a lot in these areas. Reading each person's marriage indications alongside the score gives a fuller picture.
What is the difference between marriage compatibility and love compatibility?+
Marriage compatibility focuses on long-term partnership, family life and how two people build a household together, including traditional matching. Love compatibility focuses on attraction, emotional connection and how a relationship feels day to day. The two overlap, and many couples look at both.
Should both partners be Manglik?+
Traditionally, many families prefer both partners to be Manglik or neither to be. Views vary widely between traditions and families. It's worth looking at Manglik status as one part of the match, alongside the guna score and both people's 7th houses, rather than as the deciding factor.
